Bridging the Gap Between Public Data and Public Access
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is meant to improve voter list accuracy. However, post-SIR voter data has become increasingly difficult for citizens to access and verify.
Earlier, during congress regime, the Election Commission provided voter lists in machine-readable formats (such as CDs) upon nominal payment, thereby enabling easy verification and analysis.
However, in recent years, the election commission has shifted to releasing voter lists only as poor-quality PDFs - often scanned, non-searchable, and without voter photos.
VoteRight.in was created to reduce this gap between public data and public access.
Transforming Public Data into Accessible Information
VoteRight.in takes publicly available voter data released by the Election Commission of India and transforms it into a machine-readable, accessible, and usable format, something that has become increasingly difficult to obtain in recent years.
We have undertaken the challenging task of digitally extracting this data from the officially published PDFs on the Election Commission website. Through advanced processing, we convert these unreadable files into structured, machine-readable spreadsheets (CSV and Excel formats).
In addition to digitisation, we provide machine-generated analytical indicators to help identify entries that may require field verification. We have added analytical columns that flag certain entries appearing suspicious based on objective patterns (e.g., identical names and details across booths, unusual age or address patterns).
Important: These are machine-generated indicators meant only to assist field verification, not final judgments. All original data remains unchanged and is sourced directly from the Election Commission. We strongly recommend that users cross-verify our extracted data against the official PDFs, as errors may occur during processing because of low-quality source files.
